Yes! Smartwaiver uses multi-factor authentication to provide an extra layer of security by requiring additional identification when you log in to your Smartwaiver account.
What is MFA?
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) means proving who you are in more than one way.
For example: using something you know (like a password) and something you have (like a code from your phone). It’s like needing both a key and a PIN to unlock a door — which makes your account much more secure.
Starting on 09-09-2025, you will enable this MFA/2FA simply by logging in to your Smartwaiver account, where you will be prompted to set up your MFA details. This setup will only need to be performed once. (Staff Users are not required to set up MFA.)
Once Smartwaiver is connected to the authenticator, a passcode will be auto-generated on your mobile device - which you will need to log in to your Smartwaiver account.
What You Need To Know To Get Started
- You will be automatically prompted to set up and register your 2FA/MFA when you log in to your Smartwaiver account starting on 09-09-2025.
- MFA Authenticator is compatible with and supports most authenticator apps, such as Google Authenticator, Duo Mobile, Microsoft Authenticator, and more.
- When using MFA, you will always need your mobile device to generate the passcode. There is no way to generate a passcode from a laptop or desktop computer.
- Make sure your mobile device’s time is automatically set. (If your device’s time is set manually, the new passcodes that are generated every 30 seconds by the authenticator and Smartwaiver could be out of sync and result in a login error.)
- The passcode from the authenticator is a temporary six-digit number that changes every 30 seconds. Because this unique, temporary code is stored on your mobile device, there is no way to generate a passcode without your cellular device.
Setting up the authenticator
While Staff Users are not required to set up multi-factor authentication, all other Users will be prompted to set up MFA when they log in starting on 09-09-2025. The MFA tool can be used in conjunction with your preferred authenticator app.
Step 1: Download a 2FA/MFA App
First, download your preferred authenticator app onto your iPhone, iPad, or Android device. (We recommend authenticator apps such as: Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Duo Mobile, etc.)
Step 2: Log Into Your Smartwaiver Account
Once your preferred authenticator app is downloaded, log into your Smartwaiver account with your username and password. Your login will prompt the initial setup and registration of the authenticator, which will be linked to your preferred authenticator app.
Now, when you log in to Smartwaiver you will be required to provide your authenticator passcode before you can access your Smartwaiver account.
Important Reminder: Be sure to store your recovery code somewhere you can access - even if your mobile device is lost! Smartwaiver cannot replace this recovery code
Please note: You will not be prompted to interact with MFA each time you login. MFA will be triggered and prompted if login is detected from a new device or location – and based on periodic interval timeout.

The new MFA service will be soft-launched on 08-05-2025 for any Users who would like to switch over before the hard launch date of 09-09-2025.
