Driver’s License Scanning offers a waiver participant a quick and easy way to fill out standardized waiver fields without having to manually input their info.
Setting up your Driver's License Scanner is simple, and can be done in 3 steps:
Step 1: Start by logging into your account at www.smartwaiver.com. Once you are in, you will navigate over to the "Create/Edit Waivers" section of your account, then click on the Waiver that you would like to add the feature to.
Step 2: To find the toggle for the Driver's License Scanning, you will look under the "Body" section of the editor. Underneath the drop-down for Signature Configuration, you will see a toggle to "Allow Driver's License Scanning". Go ahead and turn this on.
You will see a new section populate in your waiver that contains a button that says "Start Scanning"
Step 3: Finally, as with all changes to your waiver, you will navigate over to the top right of your waiver and click on the "Publish Waiver" button to save the changes you have made.
Participants will be able to utilize a scanner while they are signing their waiver to input most of the information found on their driver's license. Below is a list of the different fields that will gather data based on the scan:
-
-
First Name
-
Middle Name
-
Last Name
-
Address Line 1
-
City
-
State/Provence
-
Zip/Postal
-
Country
-
Gender
-
Date of Birth
-
Driver's License / ID Card Number
-
Issuing State
-
This should help to alleviate some of the time it takes to sign the waiver, as well as insuring that the information captured is accurate.
Which Barcode Scanner do I use?
The Driver's License Scanner can be used in both the web and Kiosk version of your waiver. However, it is typically used with the Kiosk version of your waiver, as some additional hardware is required to utilize the feature.
Below is a link to the scanner that we recommend:
Eyoyo Handheld USB 2D Barcode Scanner
Note - Please keep in mind that support from Smartwaiver is limited to this particular scanner. If you require additional support, please reach out to the manufacturer of your particular scanner.
Any scanner can be used as long as:
- The scanner has 2D scanning functionality
& - The scanner has the ability to scan a PDF417 barcode
If you are running the barcode scanner on a kiosk device, you will also need the following adapter:
USB 3.0 to USB-C Adapter
Again, most USB to USB-C adapters will work for this application.
How to use the Driver’s License Scanner:
Once the scanner is ready, and feature has been turned on, you are ready to go!
For the participant to use the feature, they will navigate to the "Start Scanning" button on the waiver (located just after the Body section).
Click on "Start Scanning". The waiver will then indicate to use the provided barcode scanner on the participant's Driver's License.
Once the participant has scanned the license, the "Start Scanning" button will change to "Scan Again", in case the participant mis-scanned their license. If the scan was successful, the participant should see that their Driver's License data has populated in all of the supported waiver fields.
Once done, the participant can fill out the remaining waiver fields as they normally would.
Some additional notes about this feature:
- This feature currently only supports scanning of U.S.-based driver's licenses.
- If issues are reported when scanning via internet browser, you may need to switch to Chrome if you find that the feature is not working.
- If scanning a saved image of a barcode (i.e. scanning another screen), you may need to orient the scanner so that it is not affected by a screen glare or screen lighting.
- US, US territories, Canada, and Canadian territories are currently supported.
As always. please feel free to reach out to us at Support@smartwaiver.com if you have any additional questions!
